snooker 的詞源

斯諾克檯球，1889年，據說這個遊戲和這個詞是由英國軍官在印度發明的，作爲從檯球中分心的一種娛樂活動。這個名字可能是一個參考（關於一個同事的打法生澀）到英國俚語 snooker “新加入的軍校學員，皇家軍事學院的第一學期學生”（1872年）。傳統歸功於內維爾·張伯倫上校（1866-1944）的創造，他當時是德文郡團的下尉，不要與首相混淆。
