theologist 的詞源

「精通（特別是基督教）神學的人」，出現於15世紀晚期，源自14世紀的古法語 theologien，來自 theologie；參見 theology。其他變體如 theologue（15世紀早期；可比較希臘語 theologos，「談論神祇的人」）、theologist（1630年代）、theologician（1550年代）、theologer（1580年代）較為罕見。一個微不足道或可憐的神學家被稱為 theologaster（1620年代），這個詞在1518年被馬丁·路德在中世紀拉丁語中使用。

14世纪晚期， theologie，“宗教科学，研究上帝及其与人类关系的学科”，来自古法语 theologie “基督教教义的哲学研究；圣经”（14世纪）及直接源自拉丁语 theologia，来自希腊语 theologia “关于神的叙述”，来自 theologos “论述神的人”。这来自 theos “神”（来自原始印欧词根 *dhes-，形成宗教概念的词汇）+ -logos “论述”（参见 -logy）。
