「 masher 」の語源

1500年頃、「潰すもの」、動詞 mash（潰す）の名詞形。1875年には「女性を魅了しようとする者、特に感受性の強い若い女性の心を強く惹きつけるような服装や態度を持つ者」という意味がアメリカ英語で見られ、1860年頃には mash（潰す）から「注意を引く」または「他人の感情を潰す」という概念に基づいて生まれた可能性がある。
