「 occultism 」の語源

「神秘科学の教義、原則、または実践」を指す言葉で、1870年に occult（神秘的な） + -ism（主義）から生まれました。関連語として Occultist（神秘主義者）があります。

Occultism, I should add, is to be distinguished from the primitive magic described by anthropologists, which is prescientific, prephilosophical, and perhaps prereligious, whereas occultism is a pseudo-science or system of pseudo-sciences, often supported by an irrationalist philosophy, and always exploiting the disintegrated débris of preexisting religions.
