tug-of-war 어원

1670년대, "결정적인 대결, 실제적인 투쟁"이라는 의미로 tug (n.)에서 유래되었으며, "최고의 노력, 힘의 치열한 대결" (1650년대)이라는 비유적 의미로 사용되었습니다. 실제 로프 당기기 운동 경기를 지칭하는 이름으로는 1876년에 증명되었습니다.
