nautilus 的詞源

鸚鵡螺，約1600年，源自拉丁語 nautilus，在普林尼的著作中是一種海蝸牛（包括魷魚、烏賊、珊瑚等），來自希臘語 nautilos “紙鸚鵡螺”，字面意思是“水手”，是 nautēs “水手”的詩歌形式，來自 naus “船”（來自 PIE 詞根 *nau- “船”）。從亞里士多德到19世紀，人們認爲鸚鵡螺使用其有膜的觸手在海面上航行，因此得名。
