Etimologia e Storia di katydid

Nome popolare per un grande insetto simile a una locusta, di colore verde, usato dal 1784 nell'inglese americano. Il termine è imitatore del suono stridulo che il maschio produce vibrando le ali. Nella parte orientale degli Stati Uniti, è un suono familiare delle notti estive; in realtà, il suono era stato trascritto in modo più accurato nel 1751 come catedidist.
