「 Nobodaddy 」の語源

1500年頃、dadの口語的縮小形で、-y（3）を伴う。スラングのdaddy-oは1925年に（ユージン・オニールによる）証明されるが、1940年代後半にジャズの歌詞を通じてより広く人気を博した。

Daddy-long-legsは1814年にイギリスで「クレーンフライ」として登場した、細長い足の夏のハエ。アメリカでは1865年までに、小さな丸い体と非常に長く細い足を持つクモのような節足動物を指す言葉として使われた。

A superstition obtains among our cow-boys that if a cow be lost, its whereabouts may be learned by inquiring of the Daddy-Long-legs (Phalangium), which points out the direction of the lost animal with one of its fore legs. 1300年頃、no bodi「no person no one」から、中英語のno（形容詞）「not any」＋bodi（body（名詞）を参照）。14世紀～18世紀には二語で表記され、17世紀～18世紀にはハイフン付き。1540年代からtheirとの誤用が証明されている。「重要でない人、社交的に流行していない人」という意味は1580年代から。
