「 cache-sexe 」の語源

1797年、「隠れ場所」という意味で使われるようになったのは、フランス系カナダの罠猟師たちのスラングから来ています。このスラングは「物資や食料の隠れ場所」（1660年代）を指し、フランス語の cacher（「隠す、隠蔽する」、13世紀の古フランス語では cachier）から派生したものです。さらに遡ると、俗ラテン語の *coacticare（「蓄える、集める、圧縮する」）が語源で、これはラテン語の coactare（「強制する、まとめる」）の頻用形から来ています。この言葉は coactus（cogere の過去分詞形、「集める、まとめる」）に由来し、文字通り「一緒に集める」という意味です。ここで com-（「共に」、co- を参照）と agere（「動かす、駆り立てる；行う、実行する」、印欧語根 *ag-「駆り立てる、引き出す、動かす」から）が組み合わさっています。この隠れ場所という意味は、1830年代には「隠し場所に蓄えられたもの全般」を指すように広がりました。

14世紀後半、「男性または女性を集合的に考えたもの」として、ラテン語のsexus「性別、男性または女性である状態、ジェンダー」から、起源は不明な言葉です。「一般的にsecoと共に人種の分割または「半分」として取られる」[Tucker]、これはsecare「分けるまたは切る」（section (n.)を参照）に関連づけられます。

Secus seems the more original formation, but it is strange that the older texts only know sexus.
