durian 어원

인도네시아의 한 나무에서 열리는 구형 과일로, 1580년대에 말레이어(오스트로네시아어) durian에서 유래했으며, 이는 duri "가시, 찔림"에서 파생되었습니다. 껍질이 가시투성이기 때문에 이렇게 불립니다.

The durian is deemed by the Siamese the king of fruits. Its smell is offensive to European sense, and I have heard it compared to the stink of carrion and onions mingled. But the exquisite flavour of the fruit renders even its fragrance attractive to its habitués, and it is the only fruit which has ever a considerable money-value in the Siamese market.
