eloquent 어원

14세기 후반, 고대 프랑스어 eloquence (12세기)에서 유래, 라틴어 eloquentia에서, eloquentem (주격 eloquens) "유창한", 현재 분사 eloqui "외치다"에서 유래, ex "밖으로" (참조 ex-) + loqui "말하다" (인도유럽어 어근 *tolkw- "말하다"에서 유래). 같은 의미로는 eloquency (14세기 중반)도 존재.

Eloquence is a word which has been made the expression for the highest power of speech in producing the effect desired, especially if the desire be to move the feelings or the will.
