prestige 어원

1650년대, "속임수, 환상, 사기" (현재는 사라진 의미)라는 뜻으로 프랑스어 prestige (16세기) "속임수, 사기, 환상" (현대 프랑스어에서는 "환상, 마법, 매력")에서 유래되었으며, 라틴어 praestigium "환각, 환상" (참조: prestigious)에서 파생되었습니다.

1815년경부터 "개인의 장점이나 중요성에 대한 환상, 아첨하는 환상"이라는 의미로 사용되었으며, 긍정적으로는 "탁월함, 중요성, 권위에 대한 명성"이라는 의미로 바뀌었습니다. 이러한 의미는 프랑스어에서 도입된 것으로 보이며, 종종 나폴레옹을 언급할 때 사용되었습니다:
