chatter 的詞源

13世紀早期， chateren “發出快速尖銳的聲音”（鳥類），“閒聊，輕率地談話”（人類），早期 cheateren, chiteren，具有擬聲的起源。比較荷蘭語 koeteren “胡說八道”，丹麥語 kvidre “發出啾啾聲，吱吱聲”。關於牙齒，“因寒冷或驚恐而發出咔咔聲”，中葉15世紀。相關： Chattered； chattering。
