electrocute 的詞源

14世紀晚期，“執行”（及物動詞，主要指法律上的授權，判決等），也指“執行或完成一項行動”（不及物動詞），源自於14世紀的古法語 executer，來自於中世紀拉丁語 executare，源自於拉丁語 execut-/exsecut-, 過去分詞詞幹 exequi/exsequi，意爲“跟隨到底，跟隨到墳墓”，比喻爲“跟隨，跟隨後，陪伴，跟進，追究，執行，實現； 執行，完成； 懲罰，報復”，由 ex- “出”（見 ex-)和 sequi “跟隨”（源自於 PIE 根 *sekw-（1）“跟隨”）組成。意爲“實施死刑”始於15世紀晚期，源自於早期的法律意義“對判決或判決執行”（15世紀初期）。相關詞彙： Executed； executing。

"電刑"，1889年，美國英語； 動作名詞，源自 electrocute。意思是“任何電死”的含義始於1897年。
