flange 的詞源

1680年代，“擴展或分支”，起源不明，可能與古法語 flanche “側面，臀部，側面”的女性形式 flanc 有關（參見 flank（n.））。意思是“用於強度或指導的突出邊緣等”來自1735年。作爲動詞自1820年起。

1820, "to project out, widen out," apparently an alteration of earlier flanch in this sense (attested by 1776), with the noun a word of obscure origin (see flange (n.)). No corresponding verb has been found in French. It is attested by 1889 as "be bent into a flange;" transitive sense of "furnish with a flange or flanges" is by 1873.
