galleon 的詞源

“大型船隻”，1520年代，源自法語 galion “武裝貨船”，直接來自西班牙語 galeón “加強型商船”，增強 galea 的意思，源自拜占庭希臘語 galea “槳帆船”（參見 galley），加強後綴 -on。在15世紀至16世紀發展，比槳帆船更短、更寬，船尾上建有更高的結構。在英語中，特別指西班牙皇家財寶船或護送南美貿易私人商船的政府軍艦。
