geology 的詞源

1795年，“地球地殼過去和現在狀況的科學”，源自現代拉丁語 geologia “地球研究”，由 geo- “地球”和 logia（見 -logy）組成。德語 Geologie 於1785年被證明。在中世紀拉丁語中， geologia（14世紀）意味着“地球事物的研究”，即法律，與關注上帝的作品的藝術和科學不同。達爾文使用 geologize 作爲動詞。
