gerrymander 的詞源

1812年，美國英語中“無視自然邊界安排政治劃分，以在選舉中給一方優勢”的意思，也是從1812年作爲名詞出現的，源自於馬薩諸塞州州長埃爾布里奇· Gerry 和 (sala)mander。當時，Gerry 爲了保留反聯邦黨的多數派地位，將該州重新劃分，結果被人嘲笑。其中一個龐大的埃塞克斯縣區域看起來像一隻蠑螈，一位報紙編輯將其稱爲 Gerrymander。相關詞彙： Gerrymandered； gerrymandering。
