logged 的詞源

這是一塊未經雕刻的大樹塊，來自14世紀初，具體來源不明。在古諾爾斯語中，有lag這個詞，意思是「倒下的樹」（源自liggja，意為「躺下」，因此可以理解為「一棵躺著的樹」）。不過，許多語言學家基於語音學的理由否認這是英語log的詞源。他們認為這個詞可能是獨立形成的，旨在「通過一個適合的聲音表達某種龐大的概念」，這一觀點在《牛津英語詞典》中有提到，並比較了clog（名詞）在其原始中世紀英語中的意義，即「木塊」。

Log cabin（圓木小屋，1770年）是美國內戰前歷史中，貧困人群在當時西部這個樹木豐富地區的典型居所。自從威廉·亨利·哈里森在1840年總統競選中的宣傳以來，圓木小屋就成為誠實拓荒者的象徵（最初的用法帶有諷刺意味，無論如何這種說法都是不準確的）。Falling off a log（從樹幹上掉下來）用來形容某事非常簡單，最早出現於1839年。
