pleonasm 的詞源

“redundancy in words”，來源於1580年代的拉丁語 pleonasmus，源自希臘語 pleonasmos，來自 pleonazein “太多，多餘”的含義，在語法上指“多餘添加”，來自組合詞 pleon “更多”（來自 PIE 根 *pele-（1）“填充”）。使用多餘修辭不一定是錯誤的，有時可以有效地加強語氣。正如福勒所寫，“利用過剩修辭的作家必須根據他是否產生了效果以及情境是否值得進行評判。”
