「 Calvinism 」の語源

1560年代、フランスのプロテスタント改革者で神学者のジョン・Calvin（1509-1564年）の「宗教的教義と神学」を指します。-ismを付けた形で使われ、1566年には代替形のCalvinianも見られます。その後、彼が実際には持っていなかった立場にまで広がって使われるようになりました。厳格な道徳規範や予定説との一般的な関連付けは、少なくとも1853年から確認されています。関連語としては、Calvinist（カルヴァン主義者）やCalvinistic（カルヴァン主義的）が挙げられます。
