13세기 초, "변화;" 14세기 중반, "한 물건을 다른 것으로 대체하는 행위;" change (v.)에서 유래된 동명사. Changing-room은 1852년, 원래 광부, 화약 공장 작업자 등을 위해 만들어짐.
