Pliocene 的詞源

指第三紀第二世紀，1831年，由英國博學家威廉·休厄爾牧師創造，由希臘語 kainos"新的"（見 -cene）的拉丁化形式和前綴 eo- "最早的" 組成，意爲“最近的黎明”。與 Miocene 和 Pliocene 一起成爲英語詞彙。作爲名詞出現於1851年。
