behemoth 的詞源

14世紀晚期，指《約伯記》中的巨獸，源自拉丁語 behemoth，來自希伯來語 b'hemoth，通常被認爲是 b'hemah “野獸”的強調複數形式。但是，希伯來語單詞可能是埃及語 pehemau 的民間詞源，字面意思是“水牛”，是河馬的名稱。現代英語中用於指任何巨大的野獸。
