democracy 的詞源

“民主政治，一種政治制度，主權權力歸全體人民直接行使或通過選舉產生的官員行使； 一種由此治理的國家，”1570年代，源自法語 démocratie（14世紀），源自中世紀拉丁語 democratia（13世紀），源自希臘語 dēmokratia “民衆政治”，源自 dēmos “普通人民”，最初的意思是“地區”（見 demotic），加上 kratos “統治，力量”（見 -cracy）。
