nominal 的詞源

“Name”在法語中的意思是“名字”（9世紀），源自拉丁語 nomen（參見 nominal）。它在英語中用於各種短語中，例如 nom de guerre（1670年代）“某人從事某些行動時使用的虛構名稱”，字面意思是“戰爭名稱”，在法國曾經是士兵入伍時使用的名稱，以及 nom de théâtre “藝名”（1874年）。Nom de plume（1823年）是“作家使用的筆名”，字面意思是“筆名”，是一種在英語中模仿 nom de guerre 而發明的短語。福勒（Fowler）認爲，“英國作家使用一種不來自法國的法語短語是荒謬的。”
