reasonable 的詞源

約於1300年， resonable，“具有明智判斷力，賦有理性能力”，源自古法語 raisonable，源自拉丁語 rationabilis，源自 ratio “計算、理解、動機、原因”，源自 ratus，過去分詞形式爲 reri “計算、思考”（源自 PIE 詞根 *re- “推理、計數”）。

同時最初的意思是“理性的、健全的”，現已過時。在中古英語中，通過“由於或由好的判斷而產生的”，然後是“不超出常識的範圍”而發生了一些變化。
