slam 的詞源

1919年，美國英語中的“將（某物）浸入飲料或其他液體中”，源自賓夕法尼亞德語 dunke “浸泡”，源自中古德語 dunken，源自古高地德語 dunkon， thunkon “浸泡”，源自 PIE 詞根 *teng- “浸泡”（參見 tincture）。籃球中“跳起來將球推入籃筐”的意思，1935年作爲動詞（隱含於 dunking），1967年作爲名詞（早期爲 dunk shot，1950年）。相關詞彙： Dunked。

by 1892 in bridge; see grand (adj.) + slam (n.2) "a winning of all the tricks in a card game." It was used earlier in related card games (by 1800). The figurative sense of "complete success" is attested by 1920, especially in sports in reference to a set of four different important victories.

The baseball sense of "home run with the bases loaded" is attested by 1936, also grand-slam home run, likely a natural extension from the use of the phrase in bridge and in golf, both games then prominent, with suggestion of slam (n.1). It also was the name of a brand of golf clubs in the 1920s and '30s.
