variety 的詞源

1540年代，“多样性、差异、单调缺失的事实或特质；”1550年代，“不同事物的集合；同类事物之间的差异；”来自法语 variété，直接源自拉丁语 varietatem（主格 varietas）“差异，多样性；一种，品种，种类，”来自 varius “各种各样”（参见 vary）。

“与同类事物不同的东西，变体”的意义始于1610年代。作为一种艺术特质，1590年代。1868年记录为指混合性质的音乐厅或戏剧表演（variety troupe），美式英语。
