「 anesthesiologist 」の語源

1908年、anesthesia（麻酔）と-ology（学問）を組み合わせて作られました。

Anesthesiology. This is the new term adopted by the University of Illinois defining "the science that treats of the means and methods of producing in man or animal various degrees of insensibility with or without hypnosis." [Medical Herald, January, 1912]

麻酔学。これはイリノイ大学が採用した新しい用語で、「人間や動物に対して、催眠の有無にかかわらず、さまざまな程度の無感覚を生み出す手段と方法を扱う科学」と定義されています。[Medical Herald, 1912年1月]

「〜する者、または〜を作る者」を意味する語形成要素で、特定の教義や習慣への従属を示すためにも使用される。フランス語の-iste、およびラテン語の-ista（スペイン語、ポルトガル語、イタリア語の-istaも同源）から直接派生し、ギリシャ語の名詞的接尾辞-istes、これは-is-、-izeinで終わる動詞の語幹の終わり、+ 名詞的接尾辞-tesから来ている。

変種の-ister（例：chorister、barrister）は古フランス語の-istreから、ministreの誤った類推に基づいている。変種の-istaはスペイン語から、1970年代にラテンアメリカの革命運動の名前によってアメリカ英語で一般化された。
