Europe 的詞源

14世紀晚期，“西部”（天空或地球的西部），源自古法語 occident（12世紀）或直接源自拉丁語 occidentem（主格 occidens）“西方天空，日落，太陽落山的天空部分”，形容詞意爲“落日的”，來自 occidere 的現在分詞“倒下，下降”（參見 occasion（名詞））。作爲地緣政治術語，有時大寫 O，總體上不太精確。
