apothegm 的詞源

1520年代，“原則的簡明陳述”（尤指“希波克拉底的格言”），源自法語 aphorisme（修正自14世紀的古法語 aufforisme），源自晚期拉丁語 aphorismus，源自希臘語 aphorismos “定義； 簡短而精闢的句子”，源自 aphorizein “劃分，劃界”，源自 apo “從”（見 apo-）+ horizein “界限”（見 horizon）。

In uttering a proper diphthong both vowels are pronounced; the sound is not simple, but the two sounds are so blended as to be considered as forming one syllable, as in joy, noise, bound, out.
