bus 的詞源

1832年，"公共馬車"，最初是 omnibus（詳見）的口語縮寫。現代英語名詞只是拉丁語與格複數結束。miss the bus 在比喻意義上指"錯失機會"，來自1901年的澳大利亞英語（OED 有一個比喻的 miss the omnibus 來自1886年）。Busman's holiday "在工作之餘參與工作的休閒時間"（1893年）可能是指倫敦公共汽車司機在休息日乘坐公共汽車的情景。
