ivory 的詞源

13世紀中期（12世紀晚期作爲姓氏），盎格魯-法語 ivorie，來自古北法語 ivurie（12世紀），源自中世紀拉丁語 eborium “象牙”，是拉丁語 eboreus “象牙的”中性名詞用法，源自 ebur（屬格 eboris）“象牙”，可能通過腓尼基語從非洲來源（比較埃及語 ab “大象”，科普特語 ebu “象牙”）。
