"冷杉， Pinus 種樹木，古英語中稱爲 pin（在化合詞中使用），源自古法語 pin，直接源自拉丁語 pinus 的“松樹，冷杉”，可能源自 PIE *pi-nu-，根據詞根 *peie- 翻譯爲“變胖，腫脹”（見 fat（形容詞））。
