vegan 的詞源

1944年，可能基於對vegetarian的修改；由英國素食主義者唐納德·沃森（Donald Watson，1910-2005）創造，以區分那些完全不攝取動物產品（如雞蛋、奶酪等）的人與那些僅拒絕食用動物的人。

'Vegetarian' and 'Fruititarian' are already associated with societies that allow the 'fruits'(!) of cows and fowls, therefore it seems we must make a new and appropriate word. As this first issue of our periodical had to be named, I have used the title "The Vegan News".
