「 celebrity 」の語源

14世紀後半、「厳粛な儀式や儀礼」を意味する言葉で、古フランス語の celebrité（「祝祭」）や、ラテン語の celibritatem（主格は celebritas、「多くの人々、名声」を意味する）から来ています。このラテン語は celeber（「人が多い、賑わっている」）に由来し、celebrate（「祝う」）とも関連しています。「有名であること」という意味は1600年頃から使われ始め、「有名な人」という意味は1849年からです。
