「 concordance 」の語源

14世紀後半、「主要な著作における重要な単語のアルファベット順の一覧」、特に聖書に関して、後にシェイクスピアの戯曲にも見られるものとして使われるようになりました。これは古フランス語の concordance（12世紀）「合意、調和」、さらには中世ラテン語の concordantia、concordantem（主格 concordans）から派生し、ラテン語の concordare「心を一つにする」、concors「同じ心を持つ」（concord (n.) を参照）から来ています。

A verbal concordance consists of an alphabetical list of the principal words used in the work, under each of which references to the passages in which it is found are arranged in order, generally with citation of the essential part of each.
