「 dumdum 」の語源

衝撃で膨張する金属製弾丸の一種で、1897年にベンガルのDum-Dum工場にちなんで名付けられました。イギリス軍の兵士たちは、部族民の狂信的な突撃に対抗するためにこれを製造しましたが、1899年に国際的な宣言によって禁止されました。この地名は文字通り「丘、 mound、砲台」を意味し、ペルシャ語のdamdamaと同根です。
