「 frigate 」の語源

1580年代、フランス語のfrégate（1520年代）から、イタリア語のfregata（ナポリ方言fregate）から派生。多くの海洋艦艇の名前と同様に、その起源は不明。地中海諸語（スペイン語、ポルトガル語、カタルーニャ語fragata）に共通している。元々は小型で迅速な艦艇であり、年々より大きなタイプに適用されていった。
