「 interested 」の語源

1610年代、「無関心」（現在のuninterestedに相当する意味）から、dis-「反対の」+ interested。 「公平」の意味は元々disinteressed（1600年頃）にあり、古フランス語のdesinteresseから来ており、その後uninterestedに移行した。現代のdisinterestedの意味、「公平で、自己利益や個人的偏見から自由で、利己的でない動機から行動する、」は1650年代に証明されている。

18世紀後半までに、これらの言葉は整理され、現在のように、disinterestedは「公平」を意味し、uninterestedは「問題に関心がない」を意味し、disinteressedは廃れてしまった。関連語：Disinterestedly；disinterestedness。

「興味を持たせる、注意を引く」という意味で、1600年頃、初期の形はinteresse（1560年代）で、名詞から派生（interest (n.)を参照）。おそらく、interess'd（interesseの過去分詞形）からも影響を受けた。

1711年に「関係する、重要な」という意味で使われ始めたこの形容詞は、interest（動詞）から派生した現在分詞形です。「注意を引き、興味をそそる」という意味での使用は1751年から見られます。関連語としては、Interestinglyがあります。また、1748年からは、interesting condition（興味深い状態）などの婉曲表現が「妊娠している」という意味で使われるようになりました。
