「 perverse 」の語源

14世紀後半、「邪悪な」の意味で使用され、古フランス語のpervers「不自然な、退廃的な；逆らう、曲がった」（12世紀）およびラテン語のperversus「逸脱した、逆らう、歪んだ」、比喩的には「正しいものから逸れた、間違った、悪意のある、意地悪な」の過去分詞形のpervertere「堕落させる」（pervert (v.) を参照）から直接派生。

ラテン語の単語は古英語でforcerredとして表現され、これは過去分詞形のforcyrran「避ける」から派生し、cierran「回す、戻る」から来ている。「間違った、受け入れられたものや標準に合わないもの、正しいものから逸れた」という意味は1560年代から、そして「間違っていることに頑固な、頑固な」という意味は1570年代から。pervert (v.) の非性的な意味を保持し、心理的な意味はpervertedと共に用いられる。関連語：Perversely；perverseness。
