asparagus 어원

중세 영어에서는 asperages가 때때로 복수로 간주되었으며, 잘못된 단수 aspergy가 존재했다. 16세기까지 이 단어는 sperach, sperage까지 영어화되었다. 고전 라틴어 형태의 단어는 16세기 중반부터 영어에서 입증되었지만, 처음에는 약초학자와 식물학자에게만 제한되었다; 17세기-19세기 동안 일반적인 형태는 민속 어원화된 변형 sparrowgrass였으며, 이 시기에 asparagus는 "딱딱함과 독단성의 기운"을 가졌다고 [John Walker, "Critical Pronouncing Dictionary," 1791] 전해진다. 고대 영어에서는 eorðnafela로 알려졌다. 관련: Asparaginous.
