conspiracy 어원

14세기 중반, "악한, 불법적인 계획의 음모; 악한 목적을 위한 사람들의 결합"이라는 의미로, 앵글로-프랑스어 conspiracie, 고대 프랑스어 conspiracie "음모, 계획"에서 유래하며, 라틴어 conspirationem (주격 conspiratio) "합의, 결합, 일치"에서 유래한 행동 명사로, 과거 분사 어간 conspirare "동의하다, 연합하다, 음모를 꾸미다"에서 파생되었으며, 문자 그대로 "함께 숨쉬다"는 의미를 가지고 있다 (참조 conspire).

같은 의미로 이전에는 conspiration (14세기 초)라는 단어가 사용되었으며, 프랑스어 conspiration (13세기)에서 유래하였고, 라틴어 conspirationem에서 파생되었다. 고대 영어로는 facengecwis라는 단어가 있었다.

Conspiracy theory "강력한 세력들 간의 음모로 인해 발생한 사건이나 상황에 대한 부당한 믿음을 포함하는 설명"은 20세기 중반 (1937년까지) 등장하였으며, Charles Beard, Hofstadter, Veblen 등의 저서에서 다루어졌다. 그러나 각 사용에서 암시되는 편집증과 불합리성의 정도는 항상 쉽게 discern할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 이 구문은 19세기부터 "특정 음모가 존재한다는 이론"이라는 비판적이지 않은 의미로 사용되었으며, 특히 법원 사건에서 사용되었다. 국가 또는 글로벌 사건의 배후에서 음모를 꾸미는 비밀 카발들에 대한 이론을 일반적으로 언급하는 데 사용된 것은 1871년이다.
