"undressing room" (그리스나 로마의 목욕탕이나 체육관에서), 1690년대, 라틴어 apodyterium에서 유래, 그리스어 apodyterion "undressing room"에서 유래, apodyein "to put off, undress" (옷을 벗다, 벗기다)에서, apo "off" (벗다, 떨어져 나가다, 참조 apo-) + dyein "to put on, enter, go in" (입다, 들어가다, 참조 ecdysiast).

Most of the stripping, as well as the current producing, emanates from the middle west, where nudity first appeared in vaudeville theatres two years or so ago.
