communism 的詞源

公元1300年左右，“belonging to all, owned or used jointly, general, of a public nature or character”一詞源自古法語 comun “common, general, free, open, public”（9世紀，現代法語 commun），源自拉丁語 communis “in common, public, shared by all or many; general, not specific; familiar, not pretentious.” 這是從重建的原始印歐語 *ko-moin-i- “held in common”中得出的，這是一個由 *ko- “together”和 *mei-（1）的詞根的後綴形式 *moi-n-, 組成的複合形容詞，因此字面意思是“shared by all”。

1841年，作爲名詞和形容詞，源自法語 communiste，來自 commun（古法語 comun “共同的，普遍的，自由的，開放的，公共的”； 參見 common（形容詞））+ -iste（參見 -ist）。由英國歐文主義者和烏托邦社會主義者約翰·古德溫·巴姆比（John Goodwin Barmby，1820-1881）於1841年創立倫敦共產主義宣傳協會而首次以書面形式出現。現代主要意義“反對資本主義或支持革命左翼”的含義是在1848年《共產黨宣言》（"Manifest der Kommunistischen Partei")出版後出現的。
