custody 的詞源

1772年，"與監護或保護的性質有關的"，來自 custody（拉丁語 custodia）+ -al（1）。法語中早在1752年就有了。

1781年，“照顧或監管某物的人”（圖書館、瘋子等），源自 custody（拉丁語 custodia）和 -an。在這個意義上，中古英語有 custode（14世紀晚期）， custodier（15世紀晚期）。1944年，美國英語中作爲“看門人”的簡稱，縮寫自 custodian-janitor（1899年以前）。相關詞彙： Custodianship。
