eccentric 的詞源

15世紀早期，「離心圓或軌道」，最初是托勒密天文學中的一個術語，「圓或軌道沒有地球精確位於其中心」，來自法語 eccentrique 和直接來自中世紀拉丁語 eccentricus（名詞和形容詞），源自希臘語 ekkentros「偏離中心」（與 concentric 相對），來自 ek「出」（參見 ex-）+ kentron「中心」（參見 center (n.)）。「古怪或異想天開的人」的意思在1817年得到證實（S.W. Ryley, "The Itinerant, or Memoirs of an Actor"）。
