pho 的詞源

1923年，越南湯品的一種類型，可能來自法語feu「火」（參見focus（名詞））「如同pot-au-feu，一種肉類和蔬菜的燉菜，湯汁會單獨飲用作為湯」。這個名稱可能是在法國殖民時期（約1858-1945年）期間，由越南語獲得的。另見pot-au-feu。

大英百科全書補充道，雖然不否定feu的理論，但也指出「這道菜的名稱同樣可能是從越南語對中文fen的發音演變而來，意為‘平米粉’。」然而，許多早期版本（包括上述食譜）似乎並不含米粉，這使得這種推導產生了懷疑。
