supra- 的詞源

15世紀早期「神所賜予的，神聖的；天上的」，來自中世紀拉丁語 supernaturalis「超越或超出自然的；神聖的」，來自拉丁語 super「在上方」（參見 super-）+ natura「自然」（參見 nature (n.)）。

最初指啟示等；這個概念是「超越或超出自然的力量或法則」。與鬼魂等的聯繫自19世紀以來佔主導地位。較早的意義在 supernal 中得以保留。

"一個人頭腳倒置的春天或飛躍" [世紀詞典]，1520年代，源自法語 sombresault，來自古普羅旺斯語 sobresaut，源自 sobre "越過"（源自拉丁語 supra "越過"，參見 supra-）+ saut "跳躍"，源自拉丁語 saltus，來自 salire "跳躍" 的詞根（參見 salient (adj.)）。有時在英語中進一步變形爲 somerset (1590年代)， sobersault 等。
